Threshold is a public radio show and podcast that tackles one pressing environmental issue each season. Our goal is to be a home for nuanced journalism about human relationships with the natural world. Threshold was listed as one of the Best New Podcasts of 2017 by Outside Online and as one of 100 Outstanding Pieces of Audio in 2017 by the Bello Collective.

The show exceeded my expectations in every way. To me, it epitomized what journalism should be: thoughtfully presented, exhaustively researched, and consciously balanced.
— Ian Cook

Season one told the story of the American bison. Season two is all about the Arctic. With support from the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, we've reported from all eight Arctic countries, talking to Sámi reindeer herders, Inuit whaling captains, glaciologists at work on the Greenland ice sheet, archaeologists scrambling to save ancient artifacts before they're washed into the rising seas and hundreds more.

Here are just a few of the people we've met:

Why focus on the Arctic?

This region is warming twice as fast as the rest of the planet, and that has consequences for everyone. However, most people know relatively little about the Arctic. We aim to fix that.

By the end of this season of Threshold, listeners will understand the core scientific processes unfolding in the far north, and they'll feel personally connected to the region through intimate stories from some of the four million people who live there.

This is the best in-depth environmental reporting I’ve heard.
— iTunes reviewer Senorborrito

Our partners for this season include Montana Public Radio and PRI’s The World. Below is a preview of one of the stories we're following, which was broadcast by The World in November 2017.

Threshold will begin releasing 12 half-hour episodes late September on PRX for XXX points per episode. If you need to fill a full hour, we recommend playing two episodes back-to-back or adding an episode of HumaNature from Wyoming Public Radio.

I’ll fight anyone who doesn’t love this podcast.
